let me clarify a few things for those not at the meeting on Saturday. I should point out as well that I'm an ex-student and I would love nothing more than to be able to do as much dancing as possible. However, IVDA is a student competition.
My original proposal was to have a single exstudent competition instead of allowing exes to compete in either Advanced Exstudents or Intermediate students. The rationale being basically that there were so few entries in Advanced ex-students that it made it not much of a competition. Let's face it, if I could make the Ex-student final in Latin, as I did last year, there must be something wrong!!!
At the meeting, there were some (valid) objections raised to this idea. One of the main ones being that for ex-students who often have to dance with someone they haven't been able to practise with, or even make stuff up on the day of the competition, having to do all 5 dances (4 in the first rounds, 5 in the final) was very offputting for such people and that they wouldn't bother entering unless they were really Advanced standard and had a proper partner, routines, etc and were going to take it all very seriously. So, I made a compromise by suggesting that the ex-students event would only be 2 dances, which is much less offputting. This was generally agreed to make sense, and it was voted on and I think agreed unaminously (apart from 2 email abstentions).
So, too late now if you want to complain. It's been voted in. I posted my original proposal before the meeting, so if you wanted to complain, that was the time to do it....

As most of you will know, there are debates almost every year about ex-students at IVDA. There IS no one solution that will keep everyone happy. We try to do the best we can to keep as many people happy as possible. If you don't like it, submit your own proposal next time....
