I see it as a fun event that is a chance to do something different, but also opens up ballroom comps to people who might not otherwise go, for instance, ex-students, contemporary dancers. In Cambridge, we have a dedicated Offbeat team and classes, so it's a little bit more serious here. The marking is on 50% entertainment and 50% technique.

Got me on that one! 1 min 45 is really not enough time for anyone to do a decent routine, let alone practice for weeks for, travel long distances and pay to go to a comp.

Qualifying is something I'd rather not go for (as it brings up a whole load of judging issues), as we can at least try the other time saving measures and see if they work. However, it is preferable to cutting the time.
