You get an increase in the number of entries, because you charge people for what they dance - someone dancing all of both days pays more than someone only competing in, say, offbeat, or ex-student latin.

I think the offbeat, rnr, etc atmosphere would be better in a two-day event, because everyone in the room would be interested in what was going on, rather than an audience full of stick-in-the-muds who think the offbeat/rnr/anything non-dancesport is getting in the way of their event. People who did care about the event would be there, and if they weren't competing then they could still pay a (reduced) spectators ticket.

But I guess the only way to know would be to run a two-day comp, and it would be a very significant gamble for the hosting university, especially if they had to get the hall at market rates. (There's always the Winter Gardens :o) - a snip at £8000 for a weekend. Maybe for the IVDC 50th anniversary.) Oxford have a nice big hall they can get for free, and it's a huge club. Anyone over there interested in the gamble?
