It was felt last year that the national student championships should be an event for students mainly. In previous years it had got to the point where at least in the ballroom the advanced event was totally dominated by the ex-students (as evidenced by this years combined final)

If you're going to allow former students to dance in a student-competition, why not open it to anyone who joins a club associated to a uni, why does it make a difference if they have been to a university 10 years ago?

I think it's good to have an event for ex-students, but you shouldn't be able to become national student champion without being a student. That's like allowing adults in an under 18 event...

As for the other competitions (Warwick, Sheffield, Nottingham) of course they can do whatever they like and at Oxford last year for example, ex-students were allowed in all events bar the team-match if i remember correctly...
