Good grief! dont let that stop you? You can hire a decent PA system from almost any music shop for a day/night even a week that would do the job for you! you may find your own music dept's have one they could loan out? Do you have sound recording-engineering courses? surely they must have them in their studios?

I sold a very good one myself recently for £500 as I no longer sing/play in public.. Look in "loot" you may find a bargain!
