this might be controversial but since I'm currently in Canada I guess I'm far enough away for noone to hit me :-)

Having taken part in Offbeat this year in addition to trying to get together 10 routines for NUDC and 10 completely different routines for IVDC (because I had a different partner), plus organise a bunch of stuff for other people, I found it incredibly stressful learning and practising an Offbeat routine that lasted for 3 minutes. Don't get me wrong, I loved taking part in the Offbeat. But I sacrificed my sanity and my health in the process. As did most of our team, all of whom (with I think one exception) also competed in the ballroom and Latin. We don't have the luxury of people who just do offbeat, so we have to rely on our ballroom and latin team to devote their spare time. I can say with absolute conviction that our offbeat routine wouild have been far more polished, more exciting, and generally more convincing if it had been half the length it was. And most of the Offbeat team would have been far less stressed for the several weeks before NUDC and IVDC. I think by cutting the length of time of the performance, it does enable a much higher standard of performance, and if it's a crap routine anyway, at least it's over quickly!!!

Anyway, this was all discussed at the IVDA meeting and voted on. Anyone who feels strongly about offbeat could have gone to the meeting and had their say......

And for the record, I didn't vote in favour of the motion either, but that was the decision made.
