If my memory serves me correctly, the proposed "new" EADA rule was that 'certain' (not sure what criteria will be applied?) amateurs will now allowed to teach under various restrictions and only whilst under the supervision of a so-called pro teacher , this was NOT allowed untill fairly recently.... R.R lied to you.. its not hard to imagine why he would? lol..

The relatives of most pros have been and still are the worst offenders under these rules so it only made a small diff to the ave amateur anyway, as the teachers obviously "employ" their own in pref to an "outsider" .. Teachers have been encouraging their students to help run their studios for decades, maybe that's why they made the rule you can't pay them for it huh? lol..

When EADA take the am's 'expenses' they usually give them their money back to pay for lessons from a pro? (this came up yonks ago on plaza) after EADA have taken their cut of course.. So most amateurs don't tell anyone when they do demo's..

EADA don't need to 'openly enforce' any of BDC's rules.. The way they keep control is to simply make sure the judges overlook anyone they "disapprove of" in any comps they enter... that's why the teachers kids have been doing it for years without any complaints, and the rest haven't!! One well known "amateur couple" with well known pro parents live abroad and have their own studio, I seem to recall it's in Italy? may be wrong on that thou.. But I'm sure many of you reading this know who I am referring too. :-)

Interesting fact's.. There is a catch 22 in teaching dance - in order to judge at Blackpool, a dancer has to have competed in a pro Blackpool final, so the pros have complete control over who gets top honours, and therefore whose pupils can attain top honours. there is always this glass ceiling for those who don't toe the line. And even if you do make a top final, who judges is all still done by invitation and if you don't 'get your face in' by judging 'correctly' you're unlikely to ever command the fees you might deserve as a teacher.

Many of the new and younger teachers are restricted to a limited number of hours teaching in some studios.. why? because the more expensive pros don't want to loose their students.. It's not about sport.. it's all about maximising the amount of money the pros can get from the amateurs... As for running a comp. %99 of all promoters are teacher/judges... (why don't EADA run them and keep the profits 'in house' for the amateurs they are supposed to represent?).

Uni's have no reason to bother with BDC Ltd or their anti amateur and very restrictive rule book so why do you? You could get some really good amateur teachers if you were erm discrete? not for your sake but for theirs. *winks*... And thus reduce your costs considerably... :-)

To get really real.. You don't need anyone's permission to teach anyone to dance.. Anyone can start a danceschool anytime they like... And re all the BDC/EADA rules.. I have played at loads of holiday camp dance comps, when the audience did the judging, our base player was MC, and we decided on what music we would play? with no probs from EADA/BDC Ltd... lol...

Cheers.. James...
