A few years ago (I think 1999) when I was still on EADA's amateurs mailing list, I received the invitation and details of the initial rule change that allowed amateurs to teach. The circumstances were that you had to pass a special teaching exam and then you could teach within a dance school run by a professional. You didn't have to be literally supervised by that professional (i.e. you could teach on your own) although they did take responsibility for you. There were no restrictions on the amount of money you could charge for lessons. I almost took up the offer, but something called university got in the way. I think it's a great shame if it's true that the rule has been revoked - good amateurs could have provided quality teaching at an affordable price for beginners that can't afford regular professional coaching, plus teaching is absolutely the best way to learn the technique yourself - ask any professional.
