I think it's a really good idea - i think some people are just scared of advanced although they might stand a good chance! Also, I think the dress issue can be solved: Start with the first round of advanced, then run some of the novice and beginners events allowing the knocked out couples to change into NOC if they had worn competitive outfits before.

I don't think intermediate knockouts should go to novice, as someone pointed out, they are completely different events, a couple would have to have 2 routines for each dance (one basic, one open), and it's too much of a problem with timing. Also, i think most of the complaints and hard feelings are about people dancing down to intermediate, not people dancing down to novice. There is already a good incentive to dance intermediate (open steps) and seems to be looked at as the standard level to enter by most couples at the big unis anyways.
