I agree with Chenyi. Those who've been to the Manchester competition will know all about dancing consecutive heats, because each event is run one at a time, straight through all the rounds to the final or semi. In the old days when numbers were much smaller, each event might only have one heat (though several rounds) - it's a big floor. I remember once dancing 6 consecutive rounds of Viennese Waltz without a break, and something like 28 consecutive rounds (of different dances) with no break. As Chenyi says, the point is that stamina is an important part of competing.

However, I think the problem at Varsity (if I've finally understood the confusing system!) is that some people dance consecutively more than others, so it's not quite the same as everyone having to dance consecutively. But if you're a good dancer, it doesn't matter, as Chenyi says, because you won't be disadvantaged. And that seemed to be the case this year at Varsity.
