I'm going to play Devil's advocate for a minute. Please, don't take this as my personal view, I am one who recognizes all sides and all of the complexities involved. But, for a minute, let's pretend I'm Joe Homeowner. I have one kid, finished with public school. My property taxes went up 70% AGAIN this year. What I know is that I hear teachers again and again and again complaining about how they don't make enough money. And yet my memory recalls teachers I have known through the years to the present time who are far from starving to death, in fact they drive dodge's and eat at Perkins and pop open the case of miller on sunday's just like everyone else I know. The main difference I see is that the teachers get some odd three months of vacation, whereas me and thre rest of the folks I know that work regular jobs are lucky to get three weeks. I also know that most of the teachers get pretty phat benefits, whereas I have to pay through the nose for mine, and the premiums go up every year. I know teachers work hard, but so do I. I also know that when I get a raise, it's not tied directly to teacher's taxes going up, rather it's tied to a consumer making a choice to purchase a good or service from my company. But I know that teachers who I see as already perfectly decently paid, only with lots of time off and better benefits, demand a raise, it comes directly out of my pocket whether I like it or not. So along come Joe politician who says "whoa, let's put the breaks on this so it's more fair to you the taxpayer." but Sally Politician on the other side says "it's not fair to keep teachers from getting paid more and more no matter how hit affects you." Well now, who I'm voting for is a no-brainer, you see? Teachers out there, tell me lucidly where Joe Homeowner's point of view is going wrong.
