sounds like you two grew up in fairly modern conditions from whut you describn, at least up to that time period. we had a 50gal barrel cut in half as our stove in da middle of a dirt floor living in a hogan. but it was a warm stove, and it had a 5_lb coffee can at the base of the pipes cuz we didn't have the correct pipe base to start it at the bottom.

and as tawohdih says, i always thought that it was the best way of upbringn to grow up in. n there was no paved roads anywhere within a 50 mile radius.
it wasn't till i took Econ 180 in college that i found out we were classified as below da poverty level, lol... :), yeah, that was quite a shock to hear that cuz i had never thought of us as anything but happy. didn't really consider it in terms of money.

one time i asked my mom what they did during the "great depression" years, and she was blank on that. as i told bout my book learnin bout that era, she just said "well we've always lived like that so it didn't bother us".

and i know at this point in my life that whut you grow up in and how you grew up has a great deal to do with how you relate to your environment. i know that it will always be a part of me.

so as you two were remincing, just thought i'ld throw my two centz in cuz it got me remembern bout my early life as well.

n i know how that feels tso, bout dropn 5k then suddenly rising back 5k. we were landing in thick fog at a navy base somewhere near tokyo japan in '76, n suddenly the pilot decided fog was too thick, couldn't even see da runway lightz, so he pulls back up as instantly and i felt like my stomach was still dropping as the rest of my body was being jerked back up to an altitude of 5k.
