Well, where do I start? Christmas came and went without event although I did see a brand-new Zacky the Macky on New Year's Eve last year! I remember he was so small!!!
Anyway, I'd been back at work from the holiday break for 2 days when on Thursday, 1/3/02, I had an all-day headache that Tylenol was doing *nothing* for and I saw a few white spots in my eyes while driving home from work that night. I mentioned all this to dh after he got home and he said, "You should call the dr's office. This sounds funky to me." So, we call and they send us to urgent care. At urgent care, they check my bp (like 3-4 times) and said it's all over the map, you need to go to the hospital NOW. (I was having the beginnings of pre-eclampsia at the time, as it turned out.)
So, off we went to the hospital, of course, totally unprepared for this. Eric wasn't due until January 24th. We thought, "oh, we can outfit the nursery after the holidays..." WRONG!!!!! They put me in triage and said you'll probably leave here with your baby due to the high bp.
So, I waited Thursday night, Friday AM they start inducing labor, and I wait while calling everyone to say they'd started inducing labor, and I wait, and I wait, and I wait. I waited 3 days. My cervix isn't dilating much at all--it is, after all, 3 weeks til term is over... Finally, on late Sunday night (my water broke about 7 PM that night) the dr. says that probably I won't deliver vaginally even if I wait another 24 hours and did we want to go with a C-section???
We talked about it and decided we were so tired of waiting for things to happen to go for it.
Eric was then later born via C-Section at 1:45 AM on Monday, January 7, 2002! First thing, I heard were his cries!!! Then, dh says, "it's a boy...and he looks a lot like you," which totally took me by surprise--was completely expecting dark hair, dark eyes like my hubby, but not surprised it was a boy! (everyone else thought E was a girl--we wanted the element of surprise at delivery for sex of baby) Took forever for my hubby to bring him over to me.
C-section was the right choice for me given my situation, but lemme tell you, it takes *forever* to get over and the first 2 weeks afterwards are the WORST in terms of pain down there...
Also, outfit the baby's room EARLY!!!!! If we have another one, I'm NOT making that mistake again!!!! LOL...
So, there's my story,
Jill
