 I can only suggest two things:

1) go buy a cake pan shaped like the number one (1) or a teddy bear - you can find these at almost any specialty bakery/kitchen store, as well as some "normal" disount stores (Target, KMart, etc). As for Australia, I don't know what kind of stores you guys have there. What about depratment stores (Marshall Field's, Lord & Taylor, JCPEnney)?

2) Bake a square cake, then cut out a 1 shape from it! Does that make sense to you? Throw out the scraps (or eat them, LOL)
