Subject: MANY SAY THE GIANT LAVA LAMP IS A BIG JOKE.

I don't approve of politically-oriented jokes---I've seen too many of them get elected. They have their own lttle world, but that's okay---they know them there.

Jerry Springer might want to give the giant lava lamp team some more publicity. Springer has weird stuff on his TV show. Worth a call.

{RE: Taxpayer writes to Columbia Basin Herald, Moses Lake, Wa. Dennis Bjork's letter speaks out about Sl and the giant lava lamp.} Dennis Bjork expressed he supported the expansion of the Moses Lake Port. Bjork also stated reasons why not wanting to be a part of a Soap Lake Port. Among these, interestingly enough, the giant lava lamp was mentioned, saying, "my tax dollars will go to building the famous "lava lamp." Another reason for not wanting to be part was that a Soap Lake Port would have control of the decision-making in voter-approved bond issues; according to Bjork, controling 2/3rds of the votes. Bjork made it clear he was unwilling to support any other hair-brain ideas.

It is Fair Comment to say, Soap Lake has well earned the reputation it has gotten for hair-brained ideas. The up-comings is, this crazyness coming out of Soap Lake and always making local and national headlines has has been what has greatly affected progress... resulting in Soap Lake's steady decline. Who wants to pay taxes in a nutty-buddy community of wishy-washy politics and weird ideas?

CBS Story-1/20/03:
Soap Lake Councilman Wayne Hovde revealed that there are no funds in the Soap Lake City budget available for the giant lamp. And mentioned, the news reports about the lava lamp are tongue-in-cheek while jokingly commenting-- "they spell Soap Lake right". Hovde is right about the fact the giant lava lamp idea has been commented on tongue-in-cheek. Also with a not a grain of salt but with mounds of salt. This idiotic idea has drawn special interest because it is a special interest idiotic idea. Check out any internet search engineer for giant lava lamp. On WEBCRAWLER ADVANCED SEARCH, you can see for yourself. WWW readers and reporters are not so dumb, much harder to convince to see the light. Many make jest of the backwater town's idea; the giant lava lamp is a hard-sell.

Jan.28, 03. DAVID GRIMES, Jewish World Review had this to say. "The giant lamp, the vision of ponytailed architect Brent Blake, would be approximately 60 feet high, 18 feet in diameter and weigh 60,000 pounds." He explained the catwalk proposed to encircle the lamp. I am sure I would not visit this and more sure I would not pay to go up the high catwalk. Imagine someone wanting to become hypnotically entranced by grooving-out on a 5-inch-thick glass filled bubbling colored oozing goo. They might decided they can fly and go careening to the concrete below. Grimes joked about not have a million to donate but rather tongue-in-cheek implied, those that do better get right on it. HA!

How in the sam hill do they propose to transport this offbeat sucker. Are they planning to build it on site in mid-street Main. Is there a building tall in enough available in the city in which to build or house the sucker. Costs a pretty penny to move a 60 footer thru traffic. Plus all the permit costs. This is delirious.
