Out of two hundred some comments on the Yahoo Message Board, many treated the lava lamp idea as a joke or hoax. One person suggested a Giant Bong be erected instead. Another said, don't believe what the Mayor tells you, that's not a field of experiment corn next to the giant lava lamp. Another said, first things first, legalize marijuana. Make Soap Lake the new party place for America with a Hard Rock Cafe and Harley shop. The money made from selling pot could go to running and maintaining the lava lamp. Another wanted a giant go go bar built with legal pot sold over the counter. They called it a surefire hit for tourists.
Looks like Soap Lake is getting more of a bum rush than they bargained for when they opened the barn door and let the team of horses run wild. All in all it paints a pretty sad picture of Soap Lake and for Soap Lake. Nothing like cutting off the head to save the dog.

How about the guy that talked down the lava lamp. To him it was a crappy thing and suggested a restroom be built at the base of the giant floating turd. Too weird to imagine. One person took one look at the team's lava lamp picture and delivered a brillant comment. The poster asked everyone to pay close attention to the picture of the lava lamp in the street at Soap Lake and see that people are depicted on the suggested viewing platform around the lamp. Poster suggested it might be a tanning stand, a cooking stand and even could be a huge outdoor lighted bar-b-que.The person hoped they would build it cause they want to see how long the viewers stand once the lamp reaches operating temprature needed to float all that wax in the 60 ft.lava lamp. The guy is right on track. I have seen retail stores encase their lava lamps in a protective viewing box made from clear plastic as a safety factor so that customers do not get burnt when they run into the hot glass. It does get RED HOT. It just goes to show that not much thought or planning went into this headlong rush for publicity and people see thru the holes.
