Of course in your case, you did not have the opportunity to go to these groups, but I think most of the time, most students can choose to go to these study sessions or not. Those who take their time out to go really deserve something more for doing it or else why wouldn't bother. People who dont go are people who either think they already know their stuff so dont think they're gonna learn something new, people who dont care, or people who just cant make it.

I think things like that reward students who cant quite get it in class, but care enough to get extra help. Of course there are limits, you can't necessarily tell the group what answers are going to be on the next test (mainly because the next time you have it, everyone will be there) and you cant tell it to one student who asks and not another. But as far as covering basically what is going to be tested and how to do it, I don't see any problem.

As far as the paid tutoring, I can see a problem with that if that is the only thing offered.
