Subject: separate model and drawing files

This is a Unicgraphics question. My company currently uses a format of having model files (containing part models only) and drawing files, which a model is brought into using "assemblies" using reference sets, and containing the drawing format. We began doing this a number of years ago, but at this time no-one knows why (the people who began this practice are no longer with the company). Is this a standard practice for unigraphics users? Is there a reason why a model and drawing shouldn't or can't occupy the same file? I'd be interested in getting several views on this subject, as we are in the midst of trying to resolve the need for all the extra files if they are not necessary.

Thanks in advance,
RW
