Subject: Considering stopping use of my Flovent 110mcg

Hi. I'm 21 years old and I've been on Flovent 110mcg for about 7 years(give or take). To put it shortly, I recently started to really look into long-term side effects from taking Flovent and I'm very concerned. When I was first put on it my dosage was 2 puffs am/pm, but after a couple of years my doc reduced it to 1 puff am/pm. I did that for awhile, but then we moved to another state and since my allergies were under such poor control I felt it necessary to go back to the old dosage. My allergies are under control now, so I think I'm going to try to wean off of the inhaler. I have a few questions and I thought this would be the best place to ask, especially after reading through some of the posts. You all seem to be very knowledgeable in the matter. So my questions are:

How should I go about it?

Are there other medications similar to flovent, but without steroids?

After I am off, does my risk of developing those side effects disappear, or is there too much damage done already?

I was also curious about something. I've read from a couple of people that they have gained weight around their midsection from steroid medication. Well, I'm average weight/height for a woman my age (5'5", 127lbs) and I've had a little bit of a stomach for the last several years, which I always attributed to lack of exercise/poor eating habits, so I never worried about it. However, I see lots of women that are equal to my size (or even a little bigger) and they don't have the stomach. Could it be from using Flovent for so many years? And if so, can it go away? I'm sorry if I sound kind of whiny, I'm just a little worried and also very curious.

Any help/advice is greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Kimberly
