Well, in the simplicity of the proposal (given, yes it IS simplified in the clause "given the choice(s)"...) the choice for "jaded" schizophrenia is a negative one, not preferred... Manic Depression, or bipolar disorder, or whatever you want to call it is a good parallel here... as depression tends to be the counter-excitement state (I'm pressed to call that "jaded", but round the definition a little to symbolize "unthrilled"...)

Anyway, my consideration was that waking and looking forward to whatever (choose your obsession...) is preferable to waking to the perception of "the same old shit"... The first choice, if available, in this opinion, is get thrilled by something... after that, there are obvious choices, mainly, get thrilled by "what"... The philosophy notwithstanding that anything is better than nothing set aside for a moment, I grant that there are destructive obsessions, as well as productive, and those that are neither...

This is a choice of selfishness, obviously, what is better for one to do for oneself? And I still say one who chooses to be "obsesively jaded" still has that driving force, the one that motivates to seek "jadedness" in whatever character or form that (jadedness) represents to them... If they get that wish, completely, then they really won't care that they did, and cannot be obsessed by it any longer, as they are too jaded... well, semantics, etc... My reference point was (and still is) that they are mutually exclusive characteristics...

Part of my consideration was thinking about those things considered a waste of time... a child who plays certain games, or someone very attracted to certain sports, etc... These conditions may provide happiness, a drive to wake and engage in such activities, an outlet for desire... and I thought about how the beration of things so, well, shallow (?) perhaps, disregards the fact that those who lose interest in things, for whatever reason, including the pressure of beration, well, if they don't find an adequate replacement (or an existing alternate, etc...) then the alternate state becomes one of non-motivation, tired and cynical non-engagement in life... is this not far less preferable? The question comes harder because I believe cynicism, berating things as "the same old shit" seems to be a rampant social pastime... and perhaps is more destructive than those doing so consider it to be... "that old stuff", "yeah I used to like that...", etc... etc...

Anyway, more than I wanted to say, I guess... the poem was meant to be open for more consideration... but, yeah, there is always potential paradox as well, one obsessed with death, etc... well, even there, it seems that person often just seeks a mystery, or a mysterious ambiance... and then there are those who choose to just injure, are obsessed with their own value to the degree that they must lessen the rest, etc... and on and on...

But, again, the proposal is one of logic, simplified... and something to consider the next time one desires to discard a seemingly trivial (or repetitive, or otherwise "non-rewarding"?) joy for whatever purpose...
