Inside the U-shaped barn was an indoor arena. Nearby were large tack-up and saddling areas. Near this space were jump standards, poles, cones, buckets, rakes, and whatever else was needed in the arena. When no one was using the arena, the sand was sprayed with water to keep the air from getting dusty and hard-to-breathe. Large doors at one side opened into the barn, and large doors at the other opened to the outside. Above the arena was a balcony from the second floor residence, so the owner and boarders could step out from their kitchen and watch the horses working.
