wot struck me most about the piantings was the subject matter-or the lack of. The focal point of each painting had an apparitional quality and was barely there. This was especially apparent in the portrait of the pope, where the pope like the head in the "head" was hardly a solid object but seemed to be part of the background being pushed out.
Also, in "head IV" i especially liked the background, where was it the tree trunks (?) or somthing seem to echo the facial expression of the head which adds to the dark and surreal atmosphere of the pianting. The style of the aritst definately creates a dreamlike eerie feel which appeals to me.
The harsh cubic lines were the only bold solid objects in the piantings which seemed out of place at first but i particularly liked them as it helps hold ur attention n guide ur view when the impulse was just to glance at the painting. They add a contrast to the subtlety n softness of the rest of the painting.
