Was the first bit a criticism? doesn't the simplicity of the subject make it more effective because
1) forced to concentrate your attention
2) takes your mind away from the subject matter that clearly wasn't of much importance to Bacon and concentrate on other things i.e. the raw emotion of the pieces.
