Scott,

I understand where you are coming from. I have had my braces for 2 months, and when I first got them on, I thought I would never eat anything but jello and mashed potatoes for two years. But gradually, it gets better. It took around a week before I felt somewhat normal about eating, and could chew with enough pressure to enjoy the food I was eating. It is a day by day process, and definitely has it ups and downs. Some days you will be able eat just about anything without pain, and other days certain teeth will just ache. This is a natural part of the process. When you go for adjustments, it may feel like you are starting over...sore teeth, soft foods, all over again. But again gradually, over a few days or in my case about a week...it gets better again. As far as food getting stuck, Jim is right...you just deal with it the best you can. It's a bit of a nuisance...no big deal. The extra brushing and flossing etc. will become routine.

I really hope this helps, and it kind of makes me feel better too, to be able to share my experience with someone new to braces...Best of luck to you.

Melody
