It's perfectly nature to question what you're doing to yourself.
As many people may remember, I've gone on a couple of rants and insulted my orthodontist just because I was pissed.
There are some orthodontists who do not use headgear. They refuse to. They find other ways to achieve the same result, or I guess leave the problem untouched and do what they can.
I wore a headgear as a kid. I only had to wear it at night. They DO work. I'm sure you will get used to the headgear just as you will get used to the braces.
I suppose you can call it off now and get a second opinion, but if the other ortho tells you that he wants to use a headgear and you want to keep the ortho closer to you, he's probably going to be a little peeved at you. :P
Other than that, I don't know what to tell you.
