I've had my braces for almost 14 months and have had the colored ligs/power chains for all but one month. I've had everything from lime green to red to orange and everything else I could see. I even got after my ortho in the spring for not having anything but dark colored power chains so she got some lighter more spring-like colors for me. The very first month I got my braces I thought I'd try to be a bit more subtle and just went with grey ligs. I hated them from the moment they put them on. I thought they made my mouth to dark looking. The next month I started in on the colors and have been much much happier with the way they look. Other people like them...at least the ones that notice at all. I still haven't gotten over the fact that my own mother didn't notice I was sporting red and green power chains at Christmas! Pick something you like and have fun with it. It's about the only fun part of braces. FYI: I'm 43 and have the all metal braces.
