I've just had my braces on for a week. I, like you, was absolutely terrified: of how I'd look, how it would feel to have extra stuff in my mouth, and of how many canker sores I was going to have. I'm pleased with how I look, I'm getting used to extra stuff in my mouth, and I haven't had any canker sores (just a little irritated.) I used to be so embarassed to go to the dentist and have them look in my mouth, but now I don't have to be embarassed any more. It was kind of hard to go for consultations because of being embarassed, but now I'm so glad I went. It is way worth it. Also, as far as the cost is concerned, some people have gone to dental schools for orthodontic treatment. If money is an issue, that might help. My ortho requires $500 and then the payments spread out over 2 years. My payment are $144/month. Good luck to you, and please keep us informed of how you're doing.
