Subject: Help! My ortho wants me to have 8 teeth extracted! Author: Suzanne [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] Date Posted: 17:19:06 08/05/04 Thu I'm 25 years old, and I have been wearing braces for almost one year to correct a Class II malocclusion with an open bite. The second molars on the right side are the only teeth that touch when I bite down. I had four premolars (#5s) extracted several months ago, and now my orthodontist wants me to have all four second molars extracted because they are sticking out too far, causing the open bite. I asked him if there was any way to push the molars back into the jaw bone, but he said no. Is there any alternative to having these teeth extracted, such as wearing elastics, appliances or headgear? Is it a good idea to have this many teeth extracted to close my bite? If I go through with the extractions, I will have only 20 teeth left. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
