Subject: Is my ortho right in suggesting this??

Hi, I'm 19 years old and I was supposed to get braces about 8 years ago after wearing an upper headgear for a few years but I never went through with the two top and two bottom extractions needed before I got them on. Anyway I have an overbite and pretty bad lower front crowding (teeth over-lapping kinda looks like this if u were looking from above -_-_ ) and I'm supposed to be getting braces put on next week. The orthodontist says my molars align pretty well and my top teeth are nearly perfect, so he's only going to put braces on my lower teeth and give me a clear plastic aligner to wear up top (I'm not sure if the aligner is going to move those teeth or just hold them in place and help keep me from biting off my bottom brackets due to the overbite). My concern is what about the 4 extractions I needed all those years ago? He said he wants to avoid removing teeth and that he is going to straighten the bottoms out and put a permanent retainer in after the braces come off. To me it sounds like he's going to force fit all my teeth onto my bottom jaw, which he says is too small for all my teeth, and then fuse them in place; all in 15 months. I would like to know if this is commonly done or does this sound like it might not work. It's rare that a doctor would actually try to save you money and treatment time(the last ortho I went to for a consultation wanted to put me in full mouth braces, bite plate, the works for 24 months.)Your responses are greatly appreciated. Sorry for the extra long message!
