As Dea said, people's pain thresholds vary and it's hard to say how long you'd be out of commission. Here's my experience -- take it for what it's worth. I had one partially erupted impacted wisdom tooth taken out four weeks ago (before spacers) and went the novocaine/nitrous oxide route. So I was awake but in happyland. That was fine for one tooth but I'm not sure how it would have worked for multiple extractions. The doc advised making the appointment for a Friday, so I could take the weekend to recover -- good plan. The procedure itself was painless, and after the novocaine wore off a few hours later, the pain wasn't any worse than a bad sore throat -- not like the wisdom tooth horror stories my friends so helpfully gave me in advance. One weekend of rest and soft foods was plenty of recovery time for me but then I just had the one tooth pulled, so it's hard to say what it would be like for four. Bottom line, it's great to have it over with, and it wasn't as big a deal as I thought it was going to be. Good luck!
