Tylanol with codeine is OTC here in Canada as well but each pill only has 8mg of codeine. I did't get any prescriptions for pain when I got my braces on even though I have TMJ but it's much the same as anything else these days. Not to go off another subject but I've had a torn labrum and tendon in my shoulder and no one wants to give me anything for that either and that's been an ongoing chronic problem. I think it's mostly a case of some people abusing the system so the rest of us have to suffer. It sucks but that's how it is! At least with braces (in my experience anyhow) the pain lasts no more than a few days at a time.
