Shannon,

I Totally agree!

I am having my lower arch only treated for simple crowding. The ortho told me it would not really hurt saying:

"we treat 11 and 12 year olds, do you think we would hurt them?"

In his little handout it said that pain medication was required "only in extreme cases".

What a load of bull - after they went on I hardly slept for three days because of the pain (that's with Codeine)! It took me three visits to just to get molar bands on. Spacers for three weeks - It really sucked bigtime.

Here in Australia Codeine is available without a prescription - I think Canada and the UK are the same. I can't understand why you need a prescription for it in America?

Thank God for Neurofen Plus (500mg Ibuprofen/12.9mg Codeine) No one ever gets addicted to headache tablets here LOL! I mean really - I'm not going to sell my kids toys to buy more headache tablet's ROFL!! I feel really sorry for you not being given decent pain medication - and not being able to just buy it OTC - What do you do if you get a migraine?

I could not have coped without pain medication! I was in so much pain I could not focus on my work either. See your GP if you need to - I would insist on something stronger than Tylenol - what a joke!

Maybe Dr. Rick or someone can comment on the general lack of pain management offered to Ortho patients - especialy in America...

Regards,

Mike
