I'm 15, and I have ceramic upper braces and metal lowers. It's no big deal at all to me. I fully understand what they're doing for me, and I really do appreciate my parents doing this for me. Sure, braces can suck sometimes, but to me it will totally be worth it to have a beautiful, healthy smile in a few years. That said, I am only a sophomore, and I'll probably be done with braces before senior pictures and graduation, and I don't plan on going to prom or anything of that nature as I'm severely antisocial, so I guess it's not such a big deal for me. Even if that wasn't the case, it wouldn't bother me all that much. In addition to that, my braces really contribute the the chic geek look that I'm currently ROCKING. I can understand where you're coming from though, I do think your wording was a little dramatic, but I would probably be acting exactly like that if I had to wear headgear or something, LOL. (Sounds mean and vain, I know.) I kind of compare NOT getting braces as a teenager to excessive sun tanning as a teenager. Sure, it looks good NOW, but in 20 years are wrinkles and spots and melanoma going to look good? Likewise, if you weren't doing this now, later your teeth will still look the same (if not worse), you'll still be unhappy with them, and you could have periodontal problems. My point is just bear with them for now, I know it's not fun, but you WILL appreciate it later. Anyway, that's just my 2 cents. =o)
