Let's go back, a few milion years, when evolution shaped our ancestors. Those ancestors lived in groups and those groups shaped their external world, for a great deal. To live in balance with the group was vital for succesfull reproduction. Then social adaptation (in your definition) is shaped by evolution.

It is difficult to seperate any aspect of human behavior from the perspective of evolution. It is also difficult to seperate the foundation of a house from the rest of the house. The house would collapse.

A more practical question: How much you think genocide is rooted in the evolution (in our genes)? Or do you think it is a cultural thing?
