Finally, I saw the Originals over the weekend and realized that by her whining throughout the trilogy, Leia should've been recognized sooner as a Skywalker.

Ahahahhahahahahahaha! That's funny. And I've always wondered what sort of rank Tarkin had on Vader that Vader just didn't choke him out too.

I totally agree there are some continuity problems and I think it ultimately goes back to the order they were made and the fact that Lucas truly didn't think he'd get to make any of the others except Episode IV. Lucas admitted (and it's a telling admission) at C3 that he could've easily made Ep. 1-3 in two films, but kind of trapped himself with the numbering. He said if you broke down the treatment that explains the events of Ep. 1-3, 20% was in I, 20% was in II, and 60% was in III. (And he made a passing reference to a possible movie exploring the origins of the Sith and their break away from the Jedi in the very far future). I've always felt that Lucas is a great story developer, but seems to lack something in complete storytelling. He sometimes is so concerned about the vision of specific things that he tends to overlook larger facts.

Ultimately it just goes back to the sense of wonder and awe I had as a child when I watched the original three. Logic flies in the face of that feeling and that's what Star Wars holds for me. When TPM and AOTC blew for me, I figured I'd just outgrown the ability to have that feeling, but watching the LOTR trilogy showed me that I can still experience that sense of wonder in my 30's. As for ROTS, I picked up that little sense of wonder, but not until probably the last hour or so. A lot of that is attributable to John Williams' soundtrack just because so much of the original soundtrack is in this film also. I'll look forward to the new TV shows and the 3-D releases in a few years and I'll continue to be a fan.
