Subject: Who hates James Cameron's Titanic?

I came across a thread on another message board that I occasionally peruse and the question was asked "Why highly-rated films do you not like?" While everyone had their various choices both strange and personal, it seemed like just about every person said Titanic. These people weren't just saying that the film was overrated (it might be), but there was actual dislike for the entire picture.

The most successful box-office film of all-time with 14 Oscar nominations and 11 wins and nobody liked it? Personally, I think L.A. Confidential was the best film of 1997, but I liked Titanic quite a bit. I saw it twice in the theater, once with my just-knocked-up wife and a second time with my mom and, in a very rare theater appearance, my dearly departed dad. They all liked it too.

I'll say the old woman story was somewhat annoying and some of the performances were a little over the top (Billy Zane), but the sinking of the ship was done very well, in my opinion. I felt a real sense of urgency and I can honestly imagine the real sinking of the ship went down in a similar fashion, with people falling off the edge of reason.

Anyone?
