Let's start with the BB goals. Direct quote from the newsletter "A motion was made by Bret Watt and seconded by Brian Snyder that a letter be prepared and sent to homeowners who are currently in violation of a provision in the covenants by having basketball goals in front of their homes." To any reasonable minded person reading this, it appears that anyone with a BB goal will be getting a threatening letter from the association that they are in violation. Now, about the wi-fi. Again, a direct quote from the newsletter "Bret Watt has suggested that we look into installing a wireless internet system for our community where all residents would have access at a possible reduced price. He introduced Jim & Chris Allen who discussed different wi fi systems that were available for communities. Mr. Allen stated that cameras at the amenity area could also be used with the system. After some discussion, Jerry Wallace suggested that further discussion be tabled to another meeting of the board." To me, the part that is important in this is that "further discussion be tabled to another meeting". That tells us that this is not a closed topic, and it will be discussed and considered by the board in the near future. Or is there another interpretation that only board members are aware of? As for the recycling. According to the newsletter "Jerry Wallace stated that he and Bret had spoken with representatives from two companies at the city meeting, about recycling programs. Jerry stated that one company which he had spoken with had proposed a cost of $ 21.00 per home, per month. Bret will contact the other company for their pricing.". What's wrong with this is that it leaves open too many questions. Is the HOA considering entering into a contract with a company for this? Is it optional or mandatory? Will the cost be added to our yearly dues, or do we contract with the company ourselves? Will the company require a minimum # of homes participating to get the quoted rate? etc. The newsletter is the main (or should I say "only") way of communicating with 10% of the community. (The other 90% get no communication now that the newsletter is not distributed. Of course these are only my estimates, reality may be slightly different.) I suggest that maybe someone should actually proof the minutes to ensure they are accurate prior to publishing. Or just maybe, we should hire an association management company that actually takes good minutes? For $35-$40K per year, I'd think we could get minutes that actually reflect the conversations rather then what we are getting now.
