As I am riding through the neighborhood this morning, I slowed down to see what all the commotion was about near the bball courts. Two men came over to tell me I should sign a petition to not take the basketball poles down. They never once told me why they were taken down in the first place. After I explained that I didn't want to sign their petition, one high strung red headed person started badgering me. I told him there were condoms that had been found and he went on to ask me if I blew them up to make sure it wasn't a water balloon. He then said so since you have found condoms, you have seen the kids actually having sex??? Excuse me but I am 35 yrs old and can tell the difference between a condom and balloon. Let's just say he showed a lot of his character in the few minutes I talked to him. I told him of a drug deal that I witnessed and he asked if I called the police and I did. He then asked if they were arrested and when I told him that I didn't know he jumped my case because I didn't sit there with my 3 yr old waiting for the police to arrest some teenage drug dealer. I guess maybe he thinks this would be good entertainment. I finally told him he was being a jerk and pulled off. I don't understand why some people don't want to hear the truth. There would be no reason to make this stuff up. I attended a homeowner's meeting about the issue and a policeman was there. They really can't do anything he said because they don't want to be seen as nitpicking the kids. He was very nice in telling us what they could do but it really wasn't a lot. It was up to us --the homeowners. I want my kids to be able to go to the playground without picking up some new language and or seeing some drug deals.
If the above issue with the red head is any indicator of the way people want to settle the issue, I now see why this will turn into a fiasco.
I walk down by the ammenity area almost every night. I have almost been ran over twice due to the cruising of the teenagers, seen two drug deals (one at dusk while getting ready to watch a movie on the lawn, had to tell teenagers on the courts to watch their mouth because children were present, watched older kids making out and jumping on playground equipment where there is a sign posted --only for use of children up to 12.
Point is--nothing as worked but taking the goals down.
