I think Mr Prentice has a good idea. Certainly party members want to see as much of the prospecive candidates as they can prior to casting their votes. I think too much has been made of the idea that the LSC has been opposed to a debate in French anyway. Certainly they have been cautious in committing party funds to more than can be delivered, hence the notion of one debate in the National Capital Region. I know the LSC welcomes constructive suggestions from any party members as to how the leadership process can be improved.
Certainly one would expect questions in any forum in any part of the country to be addressed to the candidates in French. With the prospect of as many as three candidates coming from the province of Quebec, one would expect that party members in that province would also be interested in sponsoring a meeting at which one would also expect the primary language of questions would be in French. That would be an interesting showcase for our party, to demonstrate the bilingualism of canidates like Heward Grafftey, Andre Bachand and Clifford Albert (I am being presumptuous perhaps in assuming the latter two will be candidates) along with the serviceable French of David Orchard, Peter Mackay, Scott Brison and Jim Prentice.(I confess I don't know if Mr Chandler speaks French).
So I'm sure we will have an opportunity to see this, and if party members really want to have a chance to see a debate featuring French, they should, especially those in Quebec, start organizing it. We are, after all, not a top-down party are we?
As a final note, Margo, not to be over-critical, but I am a little concerned about your reference to Mr Prentice as "Jimbo". We are, after all, all in the same party and perhaps we should remember that the goal, after this exercise is over, is to work together to win an election. While we will all become partisan over issues as we go along, lets try to treat each other, and the people who have been brave enough to put themselves up as candidates for our party, with respect.
