- Divisions -- cameron, 14:10:05 09/24/10 Fri
Do you know i hated the division thing it split you up from people you wanted to be mates with i had a friend in rodney two friends in hood and three mates in drake and three mates in my division raliegh but i dont remember really doing that much with them,if it hadnt been for martin hardcastle and alisdair martin i probably would of tried to leave they helped me settle into the unusual routine,it takes some getting ust to being away from home,i never liked the merchant navy either i got told off for mixing with a trainny officer cause i was a decky i pretty much went off the idea of being a decky after that i prefered to go home and work in macy ds and eat yummy big macs for lunch breaks i didnt even stick that job out long after my navy failure ,i really think i should of joined the royal navy rather than merchant navy but it dont matter now plenty of other things to do .

I attended the 'INDE' 75/76,I was in Rodney division, can't remember my number now,had a sub-arachnoid brain haemorrage and stroke last year and it's left me with some memory problems but I'm making a steady recovery.I first found this site two years ago but became too ill to make contact.I remember you Steve(Humphreys)and Bill(O'Leary).I joined the Merchant Navy from the 'INDE'.Gary Houldsworth(Para's)joined the 'INDE' with me,we both came from the same part of Manchester. Many years ago I attempted to contact Andrew Geary( Glasgow) but without success,it would be good to hear from him in particular as I have family in Scotland and of course any OB's. God bless all of you wherever you may be.

greetings to Mike Weller,Gary Grayand Steve Humphries, it'sgood to know the OBA is still ticking along. memories of the old school stilllinger both good and bad but it's an experience I wouln't have missed for the world., that first meetting at the "sailors home" in Liverpool right through to the last one when we were "kitted out"for the great though somewhat daunting first trip to sea. My first ship was the S.S. New Texas belonging to Elder Dempster Lines, she was an old coal burner, the engineroom crowd and the catering crowd were all West Africans the deck crowd were white but she was a happy ship.Regards to all O.B's Don. - 74/75 -- Malcolm Williams (Hood division, 133), 06:27:49 09/26/06 Tue
I am looking for Carlos Smith, Roy Craft, Sean Whalley and others!! I left the Indi earlier than expected due to financial reasons (or lack of!!) and Joined the Merchant Navy. After four years I decided to join the Army. I was in the Royal Green Jackets for six years and then the Royal Military Police for six years. After leaving the Army I took time to reflect on my life and decided to put off paid employment to enter university. I read Anthropology at Sussex University and then completed a PGCE (teaching certificate) at Brighton University. I now live and work in the Newton Le Willows area teaching students with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties as well as trying to complete a masters degree at Manchester University. I owe a lot to the Indi and am in the process of joining the IOBA. I have many memories and many images of friends but alas cannot put names to these images. Does anyone have a list of boys in the Indi between 1974 and 1976? OK, that's all for now, hope to hear from someone soon, regards Malcolm

- THE BOOK -- Steve Humphries, 21:20:11 01/04/05 Tue
Indefatigable and National Sea Training School for Boys,
1864 – 1995.
Rev Canon Bob Evans: Brand new Title.
The INDE
From a very fortunate meeting two years ago, I first met Canon Bob Evans and Chaplin Roy Paul - Mersey Mission to Seaman, at an Indefatigable Old Boys reunion promoting one of Bob’s books ‘The Training Ships of Liverpool’. Although Indefatigable had been previously included in the ‘Training Ships’ book, I knew we had to have Bob write the much fuller account of our story and history and most of all about us the Trainees.
As a boy I had no doubt that I wanted to go to sea, from Sea Cadets in North London (TS Barossa), to Anglesey THE INDEFATIGABLE, which was the making of me and now although the School has subsequently closed, I have always considered it to be my spiritual home which I’ve since discovered holds the same meaning to so many others!
Many of the Boys who attended this School gave up their lives defending the UK as members of the Merchant Navy and Armed Services and this book is dedicated to all her Trainees and Staff of ‘THE INDE’.
Bob Evans takes us back on-board the ‘Inde’, he has woven a story of personal experiences to meet the boys of old and the masters who steered us through tough discipline but with the utmost respect, taught us to identify and help others who were not so fortunate.
The book is written by and on behalf of those who were at the Indefatigable, by Canon Bob Evans, who quotes, “This is one hell of a story”. This book is about the boys and their successors, it’s their story, and there has never been a book exclusively on the Training Ship Indefatigable and School.
This is a unique occasion and a memorable event that many have participated in. The Indefatigable Old Boys Association is proud for what Bob Evans has unlocked. I know you will enjoy our story.
Forever the Inde!
Steve Humphries 1975 - 1976
T.S. Indefatigable Old Boys Association: Secretary
