Subject: Best Movie you've seen recently?

For me it was 'The Gift', a new rental that came out last week. It's about a sort of psychic in a small town, who does readings for people. She then begins to have visions about happenings in the town - an often repeated movie theme, to be sure - but this one was different and very well done I thought. VERY few movies ever really scare me, but this one did - something about the combination of the homey family drama and her jarring visions.

The scene of the odd-looking fiddler playing, for example, chilled me right to the bone. I actually went around checking closets before going to bed, even though my rational mind knows my Pom would be barking her head off if anyone were actually in the house!:-)

Also, is anyone planning to see 'Planet of the Apes' this weekend or soon?:-)

Most recent was A.I. a rather bizarre movie , very emotional if you like kids..I give it 5 tissues. The woman next me was sobbing. I thought it was because of the chili I had earlier...but then I looked at the guy she was with and I was crying for her...Okay,okay..it was a tear jerker..even I shed some...so laugh...

I saw the "Dinosaurs Eat Humans for Screams III or Your Ass in the Park three...they give too much credit to raptors...Going to go stand in line hours before opening for Ape SHIT...I mean Planet of the Apes..I should be good...Mark Wahlberg and Tim Burton say they were actually scared on the set of the humans in ape suits....geeez what wusses. Should be great!

Men of Honour and Pay It Forward both moved me to tears...The gift was damned good though:-) I love movies that give me chills...I suspected him as being the killer from the beginning.

We saw The Gift last weekend, and really enjoyed it. I agree that it was very well done.

Requiem for a Dream was an intense, powerful movie. Aronofsky is so talented in using the visual effects and sound track to draw you into the movie.

The best drama we've seen recently is The Third Man. I've always wanted to see this, and I wasn't disappointed. My son was absolutely enthralled by this movie. Neither my husband or son have seen Citizen Kane so we'll rent that soon.

The best comedy we've seen is State and Main. William H. Macy is so funny as the slimy movie director. This movie was consistently funny throughout.

You KNOW I'll be seeing Apes, though there will be an extra week or two before it's out here. It promises a surprise ending and I just hope I don't hear about it first.

I've seen a couple that I thoroughly enjoyed, for different reasons. Surprisingly, Josie and the Pussycats is a damn good statement about the overcommercialization of music, television, and teens.

Get Over It is another little gem. Martin Short is a wonderfully manic drama coach, and Kirsten Dunst has a fantastic singing voice. Tom Hank's son Colin shows signs of being as versatile as his dad.

I loved Save the Last Dance. Much deeper than you'd think from the back of the box.

Fast and the Furious. One kick ass car, and one kick ass actor. what more could you ask for?

I watched The Gift today and didn't move once from my seat. The whodunnit game kept the captivation towards the end. I thought maybe it was the wife, the Buddy, the Prosecutor. The boyfriend was at the bottom of the list but likely. She was excellent. The effects of the scene of the corpse with the open eye will haunt me.

I have also Sweet November to see tonight. Just a fluke that Keanu is in both. Then I have Virgin Suicide. That should go over well with the mood I'm in. It's a five day rental, I'll save that for another day.

I'm wondering how Planet of the Apes went.

I saw Peal Harbour, and I found it quite moving. Maybe it had something to do with my childhood. My stepfather was an island boy. He was one of those in the fields on the mountain side who watched the whole thing go down. When I was growing up, Pearl Harbour was always in view from my family's picture window, especially the Arizona memorial, glistening white in the sunlight in the distance. The movie's love story wasn't half bad, but perhaps I was in a super sappy mood.
