Patriachy is a product of the major religions and the dominant idea of a father figure (man created in God's image, woman created from man's rib. YES, HIS RIB). Though many claim we now live in an atheist country, we are still governned by simple Christian morals and rules (we are called a Christian Democracy, I believe, though I'm not sure why I put that in capital letters), an awful lot of men are more than happy to carry on like this, equality doesn't mean shit to most people who are on the top, never has and never will. As long as patriachy exists, so will it's detractors, those who disagree with it's basic principal of male superiority. It is easy to take from this opposition that these people wish for the reverse, matriachy. this is dumb. Because I oppose fascism doesn't make me a communist, and anyone who says so is a retard. We always take far too simplistic a view of things, it's always easier to dumb things down. In my opinion, NOFX don't promote sexism, but they do serve to reinforce it. whilst certain things they say have to be taken with a pinch of salt, it's fair to say that in the positions they are in, words can be damaging.

Riot grrl presented something different to the staus quo of the male dominated punk world, a different option. it's fair to say that at the moment, there isn't anything going on like it. sometimes it is easy to misconstrue the presentation of the genre as a 'man hating' one, but one should take into account that this was one of the first radical feminist movements in a very long time, and as such must be judged by the constraints of it's time rather than it's forebearers.

feminism was never about hating men, it was about an equal chance, and so it remains, but the presentation of these views, perhaps to ease the accesability of the message had to be refined for a more modern generation. Ergo, when compared to other stands, it is easy to lose sight of the common goal that they share.

In the end, riot grrl cannot simply be passed over as you seemed to do Kevin, it represents an important step forward in many ways, and even though I sound like a patronizing goit, I don't mean to.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that things are never as simple as they look, as I believe I have proven by talking shite for half a page.

lots of love and hugs and kisses
