For me, Punk Rock is like a religion with a global congregation. Like conventional religion - Punk Rock is multi-denominational. This presents itself in the form of sub-genres e.g pop-punk, ska-punk, Hardcore punk.

I see 3 elements to what makes someone Punk - a kind of trinity if you will.
1) The Punk Rock Look/Fashion.
2) The Punk Rock Attitude
3) A love of Punk Rock Music.

A love of the Punk Rock Music is the most important and is kinda like the 'greatest of all the commandments' Jesus talked about when he said, the greatest commandment of all is to "Love your neighbour, as yourself." The Punk Rock look is worthless without having the love for the music. What is the Punk Rock attitude? well that's open for debate.

The Churches of Punk Rock - are any place/club that puts on Punk Rock shows. (Spiders in a way is a kind of Church)

The Hymns - are the songs.

Punk Rock is Polytheistic Religion like that the Ancient Romans or Greeks possessed, with a multitude of Gods and Goddesses. (My Gods include people such as Tim Armstrong, Brett Gurewitz, Joe Strummer, Joey Ramone etc. My Goddesses are Brody Armstrong, Agent M (Tsunami Bomb), Bridget Regan (Flogging Molly)

The equivalent of the scriptures/Bible are the fanzines such as Maximum Rock 'N' Roll (which has been called 'The Punk Bible')

So that's my theory, tell me i'm talking rubbish! It probably borders of blasphemy but what the hell.
