If an organization has an event and some other organization sponsors it,then that act of sponsorship gives, at least, the appearance of an alliance between the two organizations.

Which is probably why you don't see hunting rifle companies sponsoring PETA events. A paddling club & a landfill seems just as unlikely of a partnership.

But this is probably something best discussed at a meeting. The internet is a great place to exchange info, but a an absolutely awful place to have a discussion about real issues.
