This is Marian's story.

Marian was born to the brutal and ruthless warlord Hestor. His mate, Siltstra, matched him in brutality and wits. Both were descendants of the Marlfoxes and their temper was unpredictable. Hestor's horde marched through the land, destroying, killing, and enslaving thousands of woodlanders. Hestor and Siltstra lived in a huge mansion, called the Castle of Night. They had a male cub named Rakk and when Marian was born, they were all surprised by her gentler ways. As Marian grew up, she saw wrong in her father's way of treating the slaves and killing. After getting caught by one of her father's loyal officers for helping a slave escape, she was forbidden to travel near the slave pens.
As Hestor was on the march, he heard of the Abbey of Redwall. Hestor and Siltstra were determined to conquer it and slaughter all inside. After a sudden assault, the Redwall creatures quickly geared up for war and launched a counterattack. Atta and Vira, two young maidens caught in the melee, battled their way out.
Meanwhile, Atta's adopted sister, Churk, was dueling with Hestor. After Hestor managed to slay her, Atta had already seen. Launching her javelin at the evil fox warlord, she hurled herself at him and managed to kill him. After the horde saw their leader fall, they retreated into the woods.
