The Brave Bear
In the forest there was a sly fox named Ernie. Ernie was sleeping against a tree. In the tree there was a family of squirrels listening to their Papa Squirrel tell a story. “And then the great Kyle squirrel climbed up the biggest tree in the great forest leaving the angry wolves hungry on the ground. “Now I have told you your story and you must go to sleep. Goodnight Harry, goodnight Sarah.” Said the Papa squirrel as he walked into his little twig bed. Harry was amazed by the great stories of Kyle squirrel.
Outside sly Ernie woke up, “Now, to get something to eat,” said the sly fox hungrily. He turned to the tree and saw there was a little door, “Wow! It looks as if a whole family is in there. I’ll come up with a plan and have them all for breakfast tomorrow.” Said the fox thinking of all the food there will be.
In the little squirrels bedroom Harry and Sarah slept dreaming of being just like Kyle squirrel. Boom bang bang, the door knocked. “Okay I’m coming.” Whispered Papa squirrel. Papa squirrel opened the door and saw Ernie acting like a homeless fox needing food. “O dear sir, I am sorry to wake you up this late but I need food. My family and I are starving and the winter season is coming up, I was wondering if you could give me some acorns. Were so hungry we’ll eat squirrel food too.” Said Ernie slyly. Papa squirrel was a nice and generous animal. “Okay, I’ll get some acorns.” He replied. Papa squirrel walked back to the kitchen and got some nuts and acorns. He reached out to give them to the fox, “Gotcha!” yelled Ernie as he grabbed the unexpected squirrel. Harry, Sarah, and Mama Squirrel got up to see what happened. Ernie grabbed them and them all in a big bag made out of leaves. They all fell into the bag screaming and scared. Then Ernie tied the bag to make sure they wouldn’t get out and laughed very loud.
A long way away there was a bear named Robert, he heard the laugh
and wanted to see what was happening. So he woke up and walked through the forest curious of who was up this late. Then he saw Ernie dancing around laughing and praising himself proudly. “No! Help!” yelled little Harry. Robert heard his scream and growled, “Now, isn’t this Ernie, you let them go or I’ll cook you and use your fur to sleep with!” Ernie was afraid now, he knew this bear was strong but he was too proud to give up his food. “No!” He yelled as he ran away holding the bag in his paw. They were both at it, running as fast as they can. Robert caught up with Ernie and dived after him. He grabbed his paw and tripped Ernie. Ernie gave up. He was too scared, “Alright, here you go.” Ernie said as he gave back the squirrel family.
Back at the tree there was a great feast as Robert and the squirrel family celebrated. All the squirrel relatives were there as long as Robert’s brother, Matthew. The little children, Harry, Sarah and their cousin Janie sang a song to thank the bear. “O the great brave bear gave the fox a scare! The great brave bear, made the fox not dare! Oh that bear, is a hero, he would fight if the temperature was zero! O! That great brave bear!”
