It was a sunny summer's day
We were playing in the pond
When the peace disappeared
And Mother Mellus came along

The others ran and hid
It was only me she saw
So she dragged me to the tub
Pinching my footpaw

So here I am, shivering
And all she says is 'Please don't mope
For after all it only is
A flannel, some water and soap'

She throws me in
And scrubs me down
And when I kick and scream and wail
All she does is frown

It's all gone in my eyes now
And so I frantically grope
For the side of this wretched bathtub
But there's far too much soap

Help! Help! Help! I'm drowning!
I kick and scream and shout
So she grabs me by the ear
And roughly yanks me out

Oh no! Another habit
It's dry and crisp and green
I'll have to go and get it muddy
I really hate being clean!
