Keeper Yule and Harriet entered the Healing Chamber just as Casidisis and Diryk were coming out.
"How is the mouse?" asked Keeper Yule.
"He'll make it, but the squirrel is a little shaken", replied Casidisis. "Apparently, the two were chasing a few butterflies and got disoriented. That's when they were ambushed. I don't know what an Avi would be doing way out here."
"I'll tell you what they're doing", said Harriet. "They're scouting out the area. I think that they have a few more tricks up their sleeves than we originally thought."
"Nonesense", Keeper Yule spoke up. "They wouldn't attack Jordann House. They're too busy fighting in Stargell to worry about us."
"Still, I think we should notify my father of this", said Harriet. "He might know why this straggler was way out here."
"Fair enough", said the Keeper. "Casidisis and Diryk, you will head back to Stargell and deliver the news we have here. Harriet, you will accompany them. If you spot anymore Avi along the way, do not engage in fighting them. It would be best to stay in the shadows."
Diryk spoke up. "Fine, but what about Jordann House? You need more help."
"We can survive for the time being", replied Keeper Yule. "Just make sure that Huntley gets the message."
In only a few minutes, the two mice and their companion were ready to go.
"Remember", said Keeper Yule. "Do not, in any circumstance, be seen by any Avi. They will fight to the death. Good luck!"
The three travellers set out through the gate, the setting sun casting a golden glow on the trees surrounding the pathway.
In a few hours, night had fallen completely, but the three pressed on, driven by the fear of Jordann House under attack. A few hours from dawn, they stopped to rest. The trio could feel their fatigue catching up to them, and pretty soon all three were asleep. For this reason they did not notice the darkening woods around them. The sound of breaking brush awoke Harriet, and his cunning eyes spotted the group of Avi at once. As quickly as he could, he shook awake the other two.
As Harriet watched the seven creatures come closer, Casidisis and Diryk began sneaking into the covered brush. Luckily, not one Avi spotted them. Harriet snuck a glance behind him, and them bolted into the sky.
Casidisis and Diryk stayed as still as they could as they listened to the angry screams of the Avi. After a few minutes, they heard no more, came out from under the brush.
"That was too close", whispered Harriet as he drifted down to join them. "We have to hurry now. We must reach Stargell before they can notify their leader of our whereabouts."
"I don't think they are going to be worrying about us too much, with the war still going on", said Casidisis.
"Then why do they have Avi roaming the countryside?" replied Huntley. "I think they are beginning to scatter, and that's the last thing we need. If they are dispersed, it will be very difficult to round them up."
Diryk cut in. "If you two are quite finished, then I think we'd best get to Stargell, if we want to live."
The three said no more as they wuickened their pace to their destination.

It was about four hours past dawn when two mice and a hawk walked through the Great Gates of Sumonium, and entered the city of Stargell. They went straight to the Hall of the Kings, where King Huntley was just sitting down with his generals to celebrate the victory. Casidisis, Diryk, and Harriet learned that the last of the Avi had been rounded up and slaughtered. Huntley greeted his son with great joy.
"Harriet! How are you, my son? No doubt you've heard the news? We have been celebrating through the night!"
"Through the night?" quizzed Harriet. "We were just attacked by no less than seven Avi last night."
"What? That's impossible", replied Huntley. "All of my generals have reported no signs of Avi. They were cornered. Are you sure they were Avi?"
"Yes, I'm-"
"Sir! Sir!" A voice rang out through the Hall as a young hare hurried up to the throne. "Your son speaks the truth! We found General Kip dead in a creek bed this morning! And there were numerous Avi footprints around the site, sir!"
"What? He reported back this morning, I know it!" cried out Huntley. "He said that all was well!"
"No, sir, that report was written by an Avi scrive. It seems they are headed to Jordann House."
"Jordann House!" exclaimed Huntley. "We must hurry!" General Luggs, round up every man you can. We must get to Jordann House!"
