The Bible, being that it is God's word, is a source of comfort, knowledge, and guidance. Those who live by the word of God, though sinners, know better than to commit acts the Lord commands against. God designed us with a conscience, so our sense of right and wrong is intrinsic. But the entire word of God is not intrinsic, and that's why sex and violence permeates our society. If a potential murderer knew that his crime would go unsolved by the police, he'd be more likely to commit the murder. But if he understood that he would have to answer to God for his crimes, then, of course, we all hope he has a strong faith in God.
