Along with Sandi, I too apologize that it has taken this long to post my review of the concert. Between the holiday rush and new year beginning I've been too busy and caught up to get time set aside for any leisure things.

Anyway, that said....here is my review, or experience I should say.

First I should mention that I have to thank my friend Bill Pardue who just started wilsonphillipsforum.com for sending me a message through myspace to inform me he was going to the Nashville show and inviting me to join him. I knew of the show but didn't think about travelling the distance alone and spending the $ to go until he contacted me and told me he was going and that I just had to go! Bill and I had met Carnie and Wendy together in 1999 at Stone Mountain, GA when they were performing as part of BBF&F. We had a blast then and knew it'd be insane to pass up another opportunity like this together. So, last minute I booked my tickets for the VIP option and got my flight/hotel set up.

I flew into Nashville the day of the concert and we arrived fairly early to the venue in order to see what kind of set up we would have and where our seats would be. To my surprise there was no assigned seating so we took the closest to the stage we could get. The table next to us was reserved for Carnie & Wendy's mother and her guests but later there placecards were moved to a different table.
The show started around 8pm and they opened with "Monday Without You" which sounded great. I was so happy they had a full band and they sounded great! Rob played on guitar which I was glad to see since he really is a talented guitarist and does well on vocals of course also. Kiki Ebson does a great harmony vocal for the Chynna parts of the WP songs and everyone seemed to be equally impressed. There was great applause on the 2nd song, "You're in Love" and the crowd responded well and loudly. I normally never shout out in excitement at concerts much but couldn't hold back after every song and performance.
The set list to follow was really impressive and from what I can remember included the following(not in order)

Monday Without You
You're in Love
California
Silver Bells
Blue Christmas
Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree
You Won't See Me Cry
Release Me
Impulsive
Hold On
Hey Santa! (their mom Marilyn joined them onstage!)
Little Drummer Boy (awesome live version! of the same arrangement from "Hey Santa!" album)
Warm Lovin' Christmastime
God Only Knows
ABBA-song title escapes me....Sandi posted the name though on her review....
I Hate Your Face (floored to hear them perform this but was so glad since this song rocks and they did awesome live)

I can't believe myself but I feel like I'm forgetting some of the set list which I wish I would've written down the night of the show so I could have it.

After the show we were quickly lined up to go into the VIP area to meet them. There were some VIP ticket holders who got the chance to stay in the VIP room and linger with them and their families which I'm assuming were mostly friends or relatives....? However the rest of us were worked into a very formatted process of lining up until we were next in line to go up to the table where they were standing for photos and autographs. I was disappointed it was so formatted because there were a lot of us to get through so I knew one on one time was going to be limited. Bill went ahead of me and had a good few minutes with them so I was hoping for the same. I brought along an 8 x 10 photo of me with them from when we met in 1999 and showed that to them first and Carnie knew immediately it was from Stone Mountain which was cool. I also showed her a photo of the concert in Pennsylvania I attended which is the show she met Rob at. I had them autograph various things from my photo with them in 1999 to WP album covers and a promo b & w photo for "The Wilsons." I also had a print out of Wendy's photo from her dance music page and had her sign that. She seemed surprised I had those tracks and I of course let her know how cool I thought they were. She said they(she and her husband Dan) have gotten some good feedback and had interest in them as well.
There were so many things I wanted to say or ask but I had a huge line of people waiting for me to get done. There was a lot of pressure to hurry through but overall I probably had 5-6 minutes with them. Carnie & Wendy didn't mind and seemed to really appreciate us for being such big fans which is a great feeling. Carnie even mentioned how she saw us getting into it during the show and responding with excitement during the concert.

I had the chance to thank Carnie also for talking to my best friend Karen for support who had gastric bypass surgery in 2000. She said she remembered that and asked how she was doing which I thought was really nice.
I couldn't stop thinking of things I wanted to say or ask but the one thing I had planned on asking them escaped my mind the entire time! Yep, the one question...."What's going on with Wilson Phillips"....or Chynna for that matter. It's strange because once I was up there and talking with them I only cared about discussing the show, and the previous time we met, etc... Things that were directly just the two of them. I regret that I didn't ask about WP but it is what it is. I made sure I mentioned how happy I was they performed "I Hate Your Face" and Carnie quickly responded "I love that f**king song!" My thoughts exactly were repeated back. :)
So, after getting out as much as I could, it was time for the guy to snap our picture with my camera and move along. I did meet two people in line behind me that were fans as well, originally Beach Boys fans yet also supported Carnie & Wendy and enjoyed their music. They were a very nice couple and they didn't have a camera with them so I let them use mine for their picture and later e-mailed it to them. It's always cool to meet other fans and hear their common interest.
In the room, Rob was there with Lola and Marilyn with her husband I'm assuming and other guests that were able to stay in the room. Lola looked like a little Carnie running around singing and being cute and outgoing. She's a star in the making and gets it honest! haha

So, the evening was incredible and I'm so glad I bit the bullet and decided to go on such a whim. I know that in the future any show I can get to, I will most definitely do what I have to in order to attend. They are such great women and talents. The highlight of my year, or next several, for sure!

Thanks for reading and sorry it's so long!

Thanks for replying and reading the message. I really overwrote and I apologize! I just didn't want to leave anything out.

Yes, Juli....I could kick myself for trippin and forgetting to bring up WP. It was floating around in the back of my mind but it never came to the forefront. :(

Kiki is a good replacement for Chynna vocally. It's a shame we even have to use the term replacement!

Sounds like it was a total blast. I hope I have the opportunity to see them one day, though they'll probably never show up in my neck of the woods.

Too bad you didn't get to ask them about the status of WP, but I totally understand that you forgot about it in all the excitement that was going on after the show; maybe you'll have a chance the next time you see them. :)

Hearing about Kiki Ebson singing the Chynna parts of the WP songs makes me wish that the group name wasn't Wilson Phillips because it sounds like that she would be a great replacement for Chynna.

Glad you had fun. :)

Great review Craig! I didn't write down the song list either and I've been kicking myself since! Anyway, I can't believe I forgot to mention that I did mention WP to Carnie. I don't remember exactly the conversation, but I said something like, do more WP music! And Carnie said, Believe me (she stressed the believe) I'm trying. And then said something about 8 kids between all of them and it was hard. That's it. I'm sure there's more to it than that, but it was clear that Carnie (and probably Wendy) are still interested.

Anyway, again, great review Craig!

Thanks Sandi! I don't doubt Carnie & Wendy both wish they could have WP back together for a more permanent stint. I'm glad she reassured you with her comment. We know it's very much in her heart still! Thanks for mentioning it. It's too bad we didn't get to meet in TN but I'm glad you had a good time also.
